Stasis Blog (JP)

  1. (a) Don Imus made an inappropriate comment about the Rutgers University women’s basketball team. He made a public apology.

(b) He said that they were a bunch of “nappy-head hoes”

(c) We know when we see this because nappy-head is a term associated with black people.

  1. (a) A previous incident with Imus calling a black journalist a cleaning lady came up in comparison to this more recent event. It is very similar because it was towards a black person, very degrading, and ended with a public apology. It is different in that it wasn’t towards a group but one person.

(b) There is no difference; he made an inappropriate racist comment.

  1. (a) His comments came from him just wanting to “push the envelope” on his show and be funny.

(b) If this continues he will keep making inappropriate comments followed by apologies. He might even get taken off of the air.

(c) It will cause more of a situation if he continues to make offensive comments and stays on the air because people will think that his sponsors are ok with his comments because they keep him going.

  1. (a) His comments are bad because it really offended people that maybe didn’t listen to the show, but heard he made the comments.

(b) This situation is not better or worse than the previous incident because they were both racist comments that caused a bit of an uproar.

  1. (a) Don Imus needs to be taken off of the air because people that don’t even listen to him are offended by what he says. So it is not a matter of them deciding to just not tune in to him.

(b) If he is no longer on the air, people do not hear what he says. It is that easy.

  1. (a) Anybody that hears about what is said is entitled to argue about it.

(b) Publicly is the right way to argue it because the comments were made publicly.
